We are beyond proud to announce the official launch of the Sikh Soldier Organisation’s brand-new YouTube channel, marking a powerful new chapter in our mission to honour the bravery, sacrifice, and legacy of Sikh soldiers throughout history.
WE WERE THERE TOO.
Our very first video, We Were There Too – A Brief Beginning, serves as a heartfelt introduction to this vital project. It sheds light on the extraordinary contributions of Sikh and Commonwealth troops who stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Allied forces during the World Wars, over 1.2 million Indian volunteers, including 83,005 Sikhs who made the ultimate sacrifice, and 109,045 wounded in battle across global theatres.
These warriors fought with unmatched courage in places like Saragarhi, Gallipoli, Ypres, and beyond, yet their stories remain largely untold in British history books.
This channel changes that.
What’s Coming Next?
We’re thrilled to share a growing library of in-depth interviews, rare archival insights, and personal testimonies, including precious conversations with Sikh veterans, some of whom are sadly no longer with us. Their voices, wisdom, and lived experiences form the soul of this project.
From the unveiling of the Sikh Soldier Memorial in Huddersfield’s Rose Garden, to tributes at the Battle of Saragarhi, and our recent honour of receiving the King’s Award for Voluntary Service every milestone will be documented here.
